The Barrier to Reopen Brick-and-Mortar Businesses
|With PPE costs, reduced occupancy, and restriction after restriction, the barrier to reopen brick n mortar businesses continues to grow. We’ve had multiple conversations this past week with business owners looking to scale up their online marketing and focus on a |
If this is you, we can help. This is a true story that you might identify with. Yesterday, I got a call from a guy that runs five renowned Seattle restaurants, all founded in the ’60s. He’s navigated many economic highs and lows over the years and is doing the same this time but said, “Something about this feels different.”
He called to ask about hiring my team to help with his marketing, social media, and online presence. He received PPP funds, but he can’t get anyone to come back to work and has realized that the reality of re-opening may be more detrimental than continuing to focus on his takeout and delivery business.
By focusing on his takeout business, he can keep his operating costs down. By investing in a solid online marketing and business plan, he could potentially put his business in a better position financially, and long-term. What if this happens back again this Fall and Winter? What if it’s worse?
Another 2–3 months of closure would likely permanently close this iconic establishment, as it would most brick and mortar businesses. The time to pivot is NOW, not then.
Yes, it’s exciting that we are beginning to re-open, but the barrier to re-entry for most businesses is significant. PPE supplies are expensive, and the restrictions that come with re-opening are costly as well. The reality of business getting back “to normal” anytime soon is likely in the distant future, if ever.
So, what do you do if you’re in a situation similar to this gentleman? You pivot. You pivot your business model to a pandemic/recession-proof model that can withstand the test of time. Sounds great right? But how do you do that?
We’ve helped many businesses build successful business from the ground up online and we can help your business do the same.
